The beautiful Laurel Highlands with their dramatic mountains, the
tallest in Pennsylvania,
provide us with turning points in history at sites that we will be visiting.
Colonel George
Washington, 22 years old, and his first command, was successful in capturing
Fort Ligonier,
defeating the French, a decisive point of the French-Indian War. (1758)
Frank Lloyd
Wright’s Fallingwater was completed, considered to be the most stunning of his
achievements. (1935)
He also built Kentuck Knob, another architectural marvel. (1954)
Passengers of Flight 93 made their heroic last stand in the skies directly
overhead in this area. ( 9/11/01)
The Miracle Rescue at the Quecreek Mine, where 9 trapped miners were saved. It was thought to be impossible. (07/02)
