MACKINAW & FRANKENMUTH

LILAC FESTIVAL

JUNE 9 - 12, 2009

Sense the lilacs of Mackinac and observe the Bavarian roots of Frankenmuth , Michigan .
Our first interesting stop will be at “THE CROSS IN THE WOODS”, one of Michigan’s best known and most visited shrines.
Our home away from home will be on the shores of Lake Huron in Mackinaw City. We will travel by ferry to the beautiful, Victorian Mackinac Island .
We will be greeted by a horse drawn carriage for our tour of this fascinating island, no cars in sight, only bikes and feet abound the streets. As we journey throughout the island, encompass the sweet aroma of lilacs decorating this festival. Following the tour, we will visit FORT MACKINAC .
This restored 18th century British and American fort brings to life the history and heritage of the soldiers and families that lived during this era.
Then we are off to the wonderfully, elegant GRAND HOTEL for our luncheon buffet. Nestled amongst Grandeur, with Grand food and Grand service,
it doesn’t get more Grand. In Mackinaw City , a great coastal town, we will visit COLONIAL MICHILIMACKINAC, a 1770’s era fur trading village
and fort. Our journey continues with a visit to OLD MACKINAC POINT LIGHTHOUSE. We will tour the tower of this 1892 lighthouse.
The afternoon takes us to HISTORIC MILL CREEK.  On the way home, we will detour to a fabulous town rich in German Heritage, Frankenmuth.
We will stop at the famous BRONNER’S CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND. Bronner’s is the world’s largest Christmas store visited by millions.
