Calling all history fanatics, join
Imperial for a trip back to the 1880’s.
We will be visiting Conner Prairie in
Indianapolis
.
Travel back to the days of “Little House on the Prairie.”
We will discover what it was like to live and play in
Indiana
’s past. Explore five themed
historic areas on 200 beautiful, wooded acres including the newest exhibit, 1859
Balloon Voyage. This exhibit educates
guests about
Indiana
’s aviation history and culminates with a voyage 350 feet above the prairie in
a tethered helium balloon. 150 years ago aviation pioneer John Wise took off
from Lafayette in his hot air balloon with his mail pouch destined for New York
City to parachute drop the mail. Unfortunately,
not understanding the wind currents he finally dropped his mail in
Crawfordsville as he headed west in his balloon. If
you desire, you can ride a tethered balloon 350 feet, 35 stories, into the sky.*
Also at Conner Prairie, you can visit a one room school
house, a church, and many other buildings of small town life. You
may want to visit
Lenate
Bay
, an Indian and Fur Trading settlement. Sure to entice you with their Cider
Slushies and Caramel Apples is the Apple Store.
A
lunch stop (on your own) will be made enroute at MCL Cafeteria.
*
The Balloon ride is an additional $10.00 and
is only open when weather conditions are acceptable.
Let’s hope for a clear calm day!
You can sign up for the balloon ride when you sign up for the trip.
